Winter Things

Winter Things

It’s been a busy time in the city for Scarecrow, with graduation celebrations, Techweek, exciting things being devised in the Scarecrow kitchen for upcoming events and the launch of our brand new website!

You might remember that late last year we were recipients of the Snail of Approval Food Award for 2021. It is an award we are both humbled and challenged by as it acknowledges our achievements and prompts us to do more.  Over the course of the winter we are celebrating this award by hosting three special dinners, each with speakers and themes that consider food supply chains, environment and sustainability into the future.  These dinners will be hosted at long, shared tables. Good conversation and company interspersed with speakers and an opportunity to learn more about the concerns of secure, clean and fair food into the future.

Our ambition, to contribute in some small way to making our city a more connected, conscious and vibrant community is at the core of who we are as a business. We hope you will join us at these dinners and bring your interests and views to the table! See details further down in the newsletter.

Scarecrow & Techweek

Something a little different for Scarecrow recently when director Paul joined a panel of small business owners as part of TechWeek 2021 to talk about the importance of technology behind the scenes at Scarecrow. We may be a Kitchen, Florist, Grocer, but as you’ll hear from Paul, Scarecrow wouldn’t be possible without a robust network of tech applications ensuring the smooth sailing of day-to-day operations. Our thanks to Chorus for the invitation! See what Paul had to say here.

The team has been busy devising catering options for your next event. A great selection of antipasto platters, sandwiches & wraps, cheeseboards & sweets (including whole house-made cakes) can be found online. With plenty of vegetarian, vegan & gluten-free options available, there’s something for everyone. Let Scarecrow do all the work for your next function. We’re delighted to introduce you to…

… our brand new website. It’s been a wee while coming, but we wanted to be sure our online presence reflected your instore experience as closely as possible. Each part of Scarecrow now has a dedicated landing page, easy to find from the homepage. The team has worked hard to optimise the online store to make your experience as seamless as possible. We’ve had lots of positive feedback so far; please, if you haven’t already, go and have a look. Scarecrow Flowers, Ready Meals, Gift Hampers, Wine & Beer, as well as a select grocery selection (including your favourite NZ chocolate, honey, olive oils & more) can all be delivered right to your door in just a few simple steps. There’s loads to explore; let us know what you think!

Mark Saturday 26 June in your diary and make sure you get your tickets over at the website. Spaces are limited to 36 and are being snapped up already!

Durham Farms in the NZ Herald…

We were delighted to see Adrian Townsend of Durham Farms, the feature speaker at our Matariki Regenerative Slow Farming Dinner, in the NZ Herald over the weekend. Adrian, managing partner and founder of Waipu-based Durham Farms, spoke of sustainable farming, turning Covid risks into opportunity and why his business is poised to acquire more land throughout the country. We are looking forward to hearing him speak on their sustainability journey in more depth on 26 June at Scarecrow. Join us!
