Cou cou! We’re still here… are YOU? March 21

Cou cou! We’re still here… are YOU? March 21

Our city was gently reawakening after the playful days of sand sifting through the hour glass of summer. Through January we had enjoyed the good produce from our garden, and relished time to be at home to cook it up for family and friends. But the city beckoned and we pivoted our attention away from idle days and back to work. However, with no international visitors in the city, fewer commuters coming in to offices and a sense of hesitation to embrace city life, a feeling of languor pervades Auckland. Now, with the whisper of autumn in the air, hospitality businesses are bracing for the ongoing drama of Covid in all our lives.

We are so grateful we can still be open as a grocery store and continue to offer takeaways through this difficult period. It’s also been a most productive time for our kitchen team who have cooked up some fabulous new Ready Meals including our new Chef’s Selection meal pack to keep hungry folks at home happy with delicious and nutritious dinners (or lunches!). Good food for anytime really! And you can buy one of our gorgeous Culinary Bouquets full of Herbs & Edible Flowers to enjoy (& snip from too!) while you’re preparing food in your kitchen. Our florist is still busy creating uplifting and lovely bouquets for you, and for anyone whose in need of a treat! You can use our delivery service to cheer up a friend (order online).

At Scarecrow we are preparing to farewell our most valued Front of House Manager, Alessandra. But, not to break with tradition, we are looking forward to welcoming another Italian soon- Anna! Do come by to say ‘arrivederci’ to Alessandra & ‘ciao’ to Anna!

And keep absorbing that sunny vitamin D while stocks last!!
See you soon,
Alison

A Covid Plea

It’s no secret the yoyo-ing in and out of Alert Levels has crippled city businesses, hospitality perhaps one of the worst affected. We were grateful to move back to Alert Level 1 after a brief recent lockdown, but the effect of even 3 days’ restrictions will be felt for some time. Your custom, particularly in our inner city store, means everything and it has been heartening to see the trickle back to a sort of normality. There’s a long way to go, and here we make a plea: please support your local businesses. Times are incredibly tough, and every time you choose Scarecrow for your ready meals, breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee, flowers, gifts & grocery we do a little happy dance. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming even more of you back to our beautiful city centre.

New Ready Meal Pack

The Chef’s Selection is here & at $115 for 6 meal items is incredible value. Chef will choose for you 3 mains including a pie, a lasagne & main meal complemented by 3 side dishes or deli items. These are available in Classic, Vegetarian & Gluten Free options so there really is something to feed everyone. Absolutely perfect for having friends over at the last minute – how we look forward to being able to do that again soon! Until we’re able to though, grab a Chef’s Selection and have dinners sorted for the entire week.

Wine tastings from the Cellar
Wine tastings are back. We want to kick 2021 off with a bang, and are delighted to have Obsidian Estate, one of our favourite Waiheke wine producers join us on Thursday 18 March at Scarecrow Grocer, 811 Mt Eden Road. Watch your inbox for more details on the evening, but rest assured it will include incredible wine and Scarecrow snacks to boot. Did someone say babaganoush?

We’re YouTubing
It turns out there’s a touch of Hollywood in our midst. Not only has Chef Steve been busy filling the fridges with new, nourishing & delicious ready meals, he has also wowed us with his on-screen talents on our brand new YouTube channel! Here you’ll find bits & pieces from the Scarecrow archives alongside a series of How-To videos which Chef is currently busy filming. From ways to use Scarecrow Sauces to incredible things you can do with our house made stocks and more. We’ll be adding to our channel regularly and are confident our videos will be a useful source of inspiration in your household. Watch this space!

Easter
It was a little confronting seeing Easter eggs in some supermarkets appearing straight after Christmas, but our next long weekend is now nearly upon us. Scarecrow Flowers is busy planning pastels; we’ll have Easter themed gift baskets & our carefully curated and well-loved artisan chocolate selection will be ramped right up for the occasion – naturally! Keep an eye in store and on the website for Easter gifts & flowers, delivered right to your door.
