Scarecrow News August 2020

How lucky we are feeling every day to be here in NZ, sheltered from the worst impacts of Covid19, still able to enjoy our family, friends and community. Still able to open the doors of Scarecrow with our fabulous team and the support of our wonderful customers.
Lockdown was a moment to pause, take a breath, enjoy the serenity of the hushed environment, and then to get productive and creative again!

Like so many other businesses, we recognised the need to respond to the new business reality.

The city is a changed place, perhaps more profoundly changed than some of the regions and suburbs. We regularly look at the ‘vacant’ car spaces illuminated in the Victoria St car park opposite. Previously typically registering full on weekdays, these days there are 200 or more spaces free each day. What this tells us is that less people are coming into the city. (Not that we want to encourage cars in the city!) But it’s a telling barometer and this is further evidenced in our store.

We are excited to see the Arts and Sports sectors back in action, notably the Auckland Art GalleryWhānau Mārama: NZ International Film Festival and the Auckland Philharmonia who are such an important part of reawakening the city and bringing people together. These events have a huge impact on the vibrancy and life of our communities and the city centre. We remain committed to celebrating and supporting the arts sector.

But things are definitely tougher. This means we are thinking about how to bring Scarecrow to you. Our team has developed a range of meals you can enjoy at home or in your office, they are a delicious and an easy alternative when you’re busy! Let our chefs prepare a nutritious meal for yourself or your family, store them for up to a week in your fridge (or throw them in the freezer), pull them out when you need them! We have also created a selection of Deli foods and other goods, such as Gravlax, Hot Smoked Salmon, Cured Duck Breast, freshly baked cookies, bottled sauces, muesli, all prepared by our chefs and packaged in house.  Now we are preparing to open our new store featuring the Grocery / Florist / Cellar in Mt Eden!

Catch up on all the details in this newsletter.

Look forward to seeing you soon,
Alison
