The festivals of Easter, Passover and Nowruz, the Persian New Year, are all celebrated around this time of the Northern Hemisphere‘s spring equinox, however in the Southern Hemisphere things do get a bit more complicated! Fortunately the abundance of excellent local chocolate and early season flowers has made it possible to fuse the traditionally symbolic elements of these festivals with local Kiwi twists. Each of these traditions celebrate ‘new’. New births, new seasons, new ideas, new ways of being in the world. I want to link this to how we approach cleaning because all of these festivals have ‘spring cleaning’ as a key symbol and theme.

We are really proud this week to introduce a new, locally made cleaning range, YOURS, to the Scarecrow shelves. Developed with real passion and vision by Stephanie Duvander, these products focus on our personal wellbeing AND the wellbeing of our planet. Non-toxic, antibacterial and packaged in a planet friendly way, these powerful mixes replace 3 cups of ‘normal’ cleaning products. The point of difference is the use of essential oils, which transform our living environments and personal care to be calming and truly ‘clean’ experiences.
We hope you’ll come and try them out for yourselves. Refills will be available in YOUR returned containers. So, let’s do something new and transformative this season when we are celebrating these great holidays!

Easter Bunny approved…

We are fully stocked with Easter goodness! Penan totes in pastel tones, Easter tulips from the florist, sweet decadent chocolate bunnies & eggs. If you’re lucky, you’ll have sampled one of our limited hot cross buns, freshly baked in house and full of a really stunning, spiced fruity mix. So it’s a short week ahead; do pop in to either Scarecrow in the City or Scarecrow Grocer and stock up with seasonal goodies.
Please note our Easter Hours: Both stores are closed Good Friday and Easter Monday; Scarecrow Grocer is open Sunday 9am-3pm. Scarecrow in the City open normal hours Saturday & Sunday.

Tulip time

There is so much to choose from at Scarecrow Flowers. Late summer hydrangeas in elegant antique hues, Russian Red sunflowers, Autumn posies & of course stunning Easter tulips. Master Sommelier comes to visit…

What a treat to have a visit from Cameron Douglas MS, one of NZ’s foremost wine experts, esteemed in the New Zealand wine world and beyond! Cam arrived with Janet his wife, also a seasoned wine specialist and both vocal proponents of supporting local. They have relished the ‘Covid gift’ of spending more time in NZ which has allowed them to be regularly visiting all our wine regions.
We loved Cameron’s social media shout-out that followed! ‘This afternoon we popped into one of our favourite community stores – Scarecrow is a one stop shop for groceries, wine and beautiful flowers.We came to check out the goods, and left with armloads of essential supplies.’ It’s humbling to receive such praise, and we look forward to doing some exciting events with Cam in the future!
